Wow!

Today I received my copy of the Royal Photographic Society Digital Imaging Group, Projected Image Competition magazine in the post and sat down to look at the images, well I will admit I sat at the table and moaned, I looked at the poor presentation of the winning images – the top two images were […]

Year Two – November

Time is going to fast… but I have had an amazing month, the blog is going to have to slow down next year … but I am now loving my photography more and more…. highlights this month include: Puppies Portrait Shoots Weddings and meeting one of the UK’s leading Wedding photographers Autumn Landscapes Remembrance parade […]

Year Two (138) – Floral Design

Something a little different, today I liked at design from a different perspective that of a florist, and to get a greater understanding into what makes a beautiful arrangement, in this case a Christmas wreath, and captured some images of my finished attempt.

Year Two (137) – Night time Gigs & Christmas Lights

Low light, live music, crowds, flash, and it all narrow down to great evenings capturing amazing moments in the build up to Christmas and the challenge of realising how important it is to get the settings right in camera and to have the right equipment for the job in hand.

Year Two (136) -Lens flare and back lighting

I had the opportunity to photography Rachel and Caine doing a Duet, I had more control over my lighting but not the location, they were in a corner, relatively close to a white painted wall with kitchen units nearby. The photos on the whole are too high key for my taste, I would have liked […]

Year Two (135) – Band Lighting

Watching a live gig is an amazing experience, you can see the talent of the musicians, enjoy their music, appreciate the work that goes into creating the set and the lighting that makes the ambience of the event so special.  The skill for the photographer as an event like this is to be in the […]

Year Two (134) – Working with a Male Model

I got to photograph my first male model recently, for me this was a totally new experience as most people I have photographed have been either female, children or family shots, so I was a little a bit outside my comfort zone. Mat also had not been photographed by a female photographer before I discovered […]

Year Two (133) – Canon Professional Day

I got to go to a Canon Professional Day in Kent this week, and what an amazing experience it was, I got to have a go with a Canon 5D mark iv and a 85mm 1.2L portrait lens which has been on my maybe list for a while, I got to meet with like minded […]

Year Two (132) – Themed advertising.

Taking photographs in an interesting location really adds to the mood and feel of the shot, these shots with Jemma were taken in an old warehouse space, with the pre-shoot discussion based on how to create a traditional feel to some beer product shots – highlighting it’s traditional flavours and tastes. Jemma provide her costume […]

Year Two (131) – On my bike

I had great fun taking photos of Kim and her bike in a traditional photography studio with a white and a black background. I am realizing that getting to know the model is essential to making the shoot go smoothly and in helping everyone feel relaxed and to get nature smiles, and through that communication […]

Year Two (130) – A Bridal Shoot?

This is just a small selection of images I took of Jodie, she had a wedding dress and she wanted to create some artistic images, something a little bit different and I was up for the challenge. I was using my canon 27-70mm lens and fairly long zoom and was managing the lighting with off […]

Year Two (129) – Christmas is coming

I got involved in a project working with various models to create some themed photoshoots at an amazing studio in Weymouth – the studio is full of different area for taking pictures which means that the backgrounds for the shots can be really varied and interesting…. It was able using the available light or lack […]

Year Two (128) -Fireworks

I love fireworks, we got married in November, and I celebrated the start of my married life with a firework display… 20 years on, I am still happily married and every year the UK celebrates my anniversary with me by setting off fireworks…

Year Two (127) – How technology has changed.

I visited my father in law this week and I got to admire his new collection! He started his life out as a photographer – a forensic photographer working for the Met in London before he retired, and although he no longer is taking images regularly he is interested in perhaps going back and re […]

Year Two (126) – First Frost and lens choice…

Frosty this morning, so a great reason to nip outside and get close to the frost… I started with my 24-70mm lens extended, and it just did not let me get close enough to capture the detail … so lens choice really matters when you are trying to get a great image I went inside […]

Year Two (125) – Puppies

Who turns down the opportunity to photograph a 6 week old puppy…  I didn’t. https://business.facebook.com/RenoufDesign/videos/982564261873161/ I was amazed at how fast puppies moved, once you get down to their level they are either running away or heading straight for the camera lens, so a high shutter speed was essential….

Year Two -October

10 months into year two, and I am running out of room on the web server… but I am delighted to say I have had a lovely month of taking photos

Year Two (124) – Shallow depth of field

I am experimenting today with a shallow depth of field on my 24-70mm lens, natural light to capture the detail and wonder of childhood. The first image was outside, the light was wrong, but for me it was about capturing the moment.. a full blown paddy on the pavement…. what I find interesting here is […]

Year Two (123) – Adding Autumn

I am looking to invest in another prime lens I think at some point, so I headed out in the New Forest today with my Canon EF 100mm macro lens to see if I could get it to shoot portraits for me the way I wanted to, as my current lens combination sometimes sees me […]

Year Two (122) – Model Portfolios

Photography is an adventure, it is about challenging my comfort zones and is about having fun, this week I got to meet an amazing local model to create some Boudoir and glamour images for her portfolio, and  it also meant that I was able to use my graphic design skills to add something to the […]

Year Two (121) – Autumn is coming

Autumn in the New Forest, a great time to explore and notice the details… the photo below captured on my 5D mark iii with my nifty 50, is to me a great autumn image, the leaves are just turning, puddles offer reflections, the sun is shining  and the path is inviting you to explore. This […]

Year two (120) – Photobuddy

Long time no blog … but welcome back Photobuddy! This was taken the same day as the Highland Cow picture … and it was a beautiful morning with the autumn light shining through the trees…  and I knew what I wanted … I wanted to capture that light with my photobuddy in the foreground! He […]

Year Two (119) – A Highland Cow

One walk in the New Forest on an autumn morning, and a variety of lighting opportunities and a variety of backgrounds as I captured the free roaming highland cattle. I have my 28-300mm lens, an off camera flash which I use for the first time with wildlife and my 5D mark iii. These are the […]

Year Two (118) – Smokin’

I have photographed smoke a couple of times before… but took the opportunity to capture it again and to see if I could pick up some new tips. Smoke is a great material to photograph, it has a mind of its own and you never quite know where it is going to go, but they […]

Year Two (117) – More children

I had the pleasure of photographing another family, shooting in family homes is great fun and a challenge, you have to think on your feet, work with the available light, the available furniture and the child’s own toys, but it add’s a real sense of belonging to the shoot – the photos are unique to […]

Year Two (116) – On location

Creating an image of a something which encourages you to visit and to want to find out more is an important part of marketing a business online, today’s brief was to capture the essence of this lovely self catering property in the New Forest, give a taste of what was available and create something that […]

Year Two (115) – Morning Dew

It is October and the weather is on the change, I love mornings where the grass is covered in dew and the light is sparkling like tiny jewels… I love simple colours of the images, the bokeh that you can capture through the refracted light. These were taken on my 100mm macro lens, no extras, […]

Year Two (114) – I love photographing children

I love photographing children, it is great capturing their personalities and the magic moments that the parents can look back on… and you never quite know what is going to happen. This time I got to photograph a very stylized “Hungry caterpillar”, nanny had made the outfit especially for the shoot, and I have to […]
